Global wheat stocks hit a six-year low

The USDA supply and demand report showed global end-year wheat stocks were forecast at 267.02 million tonnes in 2020/23, a six-year low, while analysts expected 272 million tonnes. Global end-year wheat stocks for 20201/22 are forecast at 279.72 million tonnes, compared with the April report’s estimate of 278.42 million tonnes.

Global grain supplies have tightened because of production shortfalls and the escalating conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Ukraine is a major supplier of wheat and corn. In the USDA monthly report, Ukraine’s wheat exports are forecast at 10 million tons in 2020/23, down from 19 million tons in 20201/22.
